INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
March 8 2010
A joint project between Bima Wear and Ruby Gaea Darwin Centre Against Rape saw the production of a promotional t-shirt. Funded by NT Government’s Office of Women’s Policy, 180 women from Nguiu and Darwin received an International Women’s Day (IWD) t-shirt. The design came from Noella Babui (Bima Wear). Noella based her IWD design on the sharing of knowledge between women. This design reminds Noella of her mother Beatrice Kerinaiua and her sharing of Tiwi medicinal knowledge. On International Women’s Day, Nguiu Community became a sea of purple with every recipient proudly wearing their new shirt. The t-shirts are a big hit at Nguiu and next year we’ll have to produce many more! Many thanks to NT Govt.’s Office of Women’s Policy, Ruby Gaea, Kirsty, Sam and everyone else involved.

Bima women Noella, Rice, Lucia, Dehlia, Felicity and friends went hunting on Saturday at Arlutunga. All returned with a huge bag of mud mussels. Yum. When we arrived back at Nguiu each family was waiting with a well built fire and numbers ranging from three to twelve family members.
